Aeroshell – Oil SPORT PLUS 4
In the development of AeroShell Oil Sport Plus 4 Shell laboratories, both in Europe and the USA have worked closely with major engine manufacturers to produce the world’s first’s engine oil for light sport and light/ultralight aircraft 4-stroke engines.
AeroShell Sport Plus 4 Oil is designed to work with incorporated gearbox and overload clutch systems. A unique semi-synthetic blend combined with high performance additives to provide long lasting protection against stresses, different fuel types and internal corrosion. This product is fully approved by ROTAX (R) for use in their 912 & 914 series engines.
4-Stroke Engines – Why Is The Oil Important?
Because most 4-stroke engines now come with integrated gearbox and overload clutch systems, the same oil is in contact with all the moving parts, so it must be capable of coping with the engine, overload clutch and gearbox simultaneously.
AeroShell Oil Sport Plus 4 is ideal; as it is extremely resistant to the immense sheer forces that occur in areas of high-pressure contact such as high-speed gearboxes, valve trains, bearings, pistons and liners. This is where the blend of base oil and additives is most crucial.
AeroShell Oil Sport Plus 4 is made up of a blend incorporating synthetic technology and high performance additives to help provide long lasting protection.
In addition, detergents in the oil are designed to keep important areas, such as the pistons and cylinders, clear of carbon based particles that tend to adhere to these surfaces.
So when you change your oil to new AeroShell Oil Sport Plus 4, you are not only helping to remove dirt from your engine, you are also replenishing the additives designed to protect your engine during normal operation.
AeroShell Oil Sport PLUS 4 – At A Glance
- Multigrade oil designed to be used in any climate, anywhere in the world.
- Additive technology, which perfectly suits the requirements of integrated gearbox and overload clutches (ROTAX® 912 & 914 Series).
- High thermal stability for longer-lasting and safer lubrication.
- High evaporative stability to lower engine oil consumption.
- Better cold flow characteristics for easier starts and quicker protection.
- Advanced anti–corrosion and anti-wear additive package. These additives work as a protective barrier to prevent critical parts from being slowly degraded by corrosion or wear, especially when an aircraft is used infrequently. This protection is crucial for critical internal parts, especially during engine start, reducing the likelihood of premature damage and helping engines reach TBO.
- Powerful anti-oxidancy action to help protect and clean parts for longer periods of time.
- Strong dispersants to help prevent build up of sludge and varnish.
- Specially selected base oils incorporating synthetic technology to help prevent sludge problems when operating with leaded fuels. This also provides excellent sheer stability.
- Anti-foaming additives designed to maximise lubrication effectiveness. This is extremely important for those engines which operate with an integrated gearbox.
- Excellent elastomer compatibility to help protect hoses and seals.
- Special additives to neutralise acid build-up.
- Can be used with both unleaded fuels and Avgas 100LL. Please refer to Operators Handbook/Manual for the correct oil drain interval when operating on different fuels.

Aeroshell – Oil W15W50
AeroShell Oil Multigrade W 15W50 – The Premium Oil For Your Aircraft.
Semi-Synthetic Ashless Dispersant Engine Oil:
Aeroshell Oil W 15W50 is a premium semi-synthetic multigrade ashless dispersant oil specifically developed for aviation piston engines. AeroShell Oil W 15W50 is a special blend of a high quality mineral oil and synthetic hydrocarbons with an advanced additive package that has been specifically formulated for multigrade applications.
The combination of non-metallic anti-wear additives and selected high viscosity index mineral and synthetic base oils, give exceptional stability, dispersancy and anti-foaming performance. The advanced additive package in AeroShell W 15W50 provides excellent protection to engines operating at extreme ambient temperatures. The ashless anti-wear additive package provides exceptional wear protection for camshafts and lifters and other wearing surfaces.
AeroShell W 15W50 has become very popular amongst engine manufacturers and operators alike. In order to cater for those Lycoming engines that need improved load carrying, the Lycoming LW 16702 antiwear additive has been incorporated into the formulation thus eliminating the need for supplemental additive addition.
Product Benefits:
- Promotes Engine Cleanness. The non-ash forming, polymeric additive was developed to help eliminate the harmful combustion chamber deposits that occur during normal operation.
- Multigrade Performance allows for improved engine operation in temperature extremes.
- Excellent Low Temperature characteristics provide easier cold weather starting and rapid lubrication of engine parts.
- Reduces Oil Consumption in some cases by up to 50% and resists thickening at low temperatures.
- Protects against oil cooler plugging.
- All Season oil function since there is no need to change from a winter/summer grade depending on the ambient temperatures.
- High Viscosity Index Semi-Synthetic Base Oils used, maintain their viscosity and help protect engine components more effectively under the high shear stresses that an engine places on lubricants.
- Provides Compatibility with other approved aircraft piston engine oils. Since AeroShell Oil W 15W50 is fully approved to SAE J-1899 and is listed on the relevant Qualified Products List (QPL), elaborate precautions are not needed when changing from similarly approved aircraft engine oils, as long as these oils are qualified products.
- Reduces Fuel Consumption by up to 5% over straight grade engine oils.
Specifications and Approvals:
- Avco Lycoming 301F (Service Bulletin 1014J and revisions, 446C & 471)
- Teledyne Continental MHS-24B (Service Bulletin M81-11 and revisions)
- Pratt & Whitney All radial engines (Service Bulletin 1183 revision R)
- FAA Airworthiness Directive 80-04-03
Health and Safety
AeroShell W 15W50 is unlikely to present any significant health or safety hazard when properly used in the recommended application, and good standards of industrial and personal hygiene are maintained.
